Wolf Blass

Wolf Blass Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

My take on the wine:

Rating: 7.5/10

Price Guide: $15-$18

In my own Words:

As usual with Wolf Blass wines this is good value drinking. Medium to full bodied Cabernet with strong dark berry flavours. Firm drying tannins integrated well with mild vanilla and oak spice. A fairly good Australian Cabernet.

Cumulus Wines

Climbing Shiraz - 2008
Shiraz

My take on the wine:

Rating: 9/10

Price Guide: $20-$25

In my own Words:

Boom! This is a great Australian Shiraz. The fruit in this wine is grown at 600m above sea level. Full and big blackberry flavours - some dark chocolate develops towards a spicy finish. Very very morish! I can imagine that this wine will really develop with some age - so maybe buy a couple of bottles.

Bodega Los Cerrillo - Uruco 2007

Malbec 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25%, Merlot 25%

My take on the wine:

Rating: 9/10

Price Guide: $20-$25

In my own Words:

Deep purple red. A full, well balanced round wine. Soft berry flavours good oak and spice flavours coming through. The Malbec really adds a long complex finish to the wine and a little dark chocolate at the very end. Superb.

Celler Pinol Raig de Raim 2007

My take on the wine:

Rating: 8.5/10

Price Guide: $18-$22

In my own Words:

A strong red wine. Very bold red berry flavours with strong tannins that smooth out towards the finish. This is a bold Spanish wine and thoroughly enjoyable.

Bodega Septima Malbec

Bodegas Septima - Mendoza - Argentina Malbec 2008

My take on the wine:

Rating: 9/10

Price Guide: $16-$20 NZD

In my own Words:

On the nose - blackberry, plum and vanilla. All of which are present on the palate which seems to get bigger and bigger with each sip. A bit of chocolate and coffee towards the end. A very round wine - carefully balanced acidity and tannins. This is good drinking.

Pillar Box Red

My take on the wine:

Rating: 9/10

Price Guide: $16-$20

In my own Words:

A deep dark red colour. Strong berry and dark chocolate flavours on the palate, a touch of mint also? Big alcohol content leads the wine with a real Australian kick – then the well balanced tannins and oak integration finish the wine off very nicely.
